Who we are
The National Platform is made up of leaders from across industry who ensure that research reflects real industry needs.
The National Platform for the Built Environment, known simply as ‘The National Platform’ is a strategic body made up of leaders from across the industry, with the goal of promoting the built environment and defining research priorities to UK and EU research funders.
We draw our members from a wide range of backgrounds, both within the commercial sector, research and academia.
It is important that we are owned and led by industry because it ensures that research programmes reflect the real needs of industry and clients but will also create a single powerful voice for the built environment industry.
- Act as ambassadors for the National Platform.
- Define and review the progress of the workgroup activity plan.
- Provide a steer to the delivery of specific aspects of the activity plan based on individual expertise.
- Engage with other relevant groups and organisations to seek input to the National Platform agenda.
The National Platform is managed by Constructing Excellence
Constructing Excellence is the single organisation charged with driving the change agenda in construction. It exists to improve industry performance in order to produce a better built environment. It is a cross-sector, cross-supply chain, member led organisation operating for the good of industry and its stakeholders.
Constructing Excellence operates at national, regional and local level as well as an emerging international alliance. Topic-specific working groups tackle a range of issues affecting the industry including Digital Construction, Funding & Finance and Asset Management alongside a dedicated Construction Clients Group and Generation4Change (the early career part of the Constructing Excellence movement).
The National Platform leverages Constructing Excellence’s outreach, working groups and national, regional and local members as an actively engaged community with which to identify and validate research priorities and to disseminate research outputs.
